Mind-Blowing Science Experiments: Make a DIY Parachute!
Make a DIY Parachute!
Ever wanted to see what gravity really is? You can learn about gravity by making this epic DIY parachute for a lightweight toy. The parachute is SUPER easily made from materials around your house, and the best part? You can use it to further experiment with different strategies and objects!
The things you need to do this experiment are:
- Plastic bag (i.e. grocery bag)
- Yarn/string
- Paper cup
- Scissors
- Lightweight toy(s)
- Decorative items like crayons and glitter
Step 1:
Use the scissors to remove the handles from your plastic bag.
Step 2:
Moving on, poke 4 holes on the bag so that they are the same distance apart and on the opposite sides of the bag. Cut 4 holes into the rim of the paper cup, too.
Step 3:
Keeping the 4-theme, next, cut 4 pieces of yarn, each measuring 10 inches long.
Step 4:
Thread one piece of yarn through the hole in the paper cup and tie the yarn to the cup with a knot. Repeat with all four strands of yarn in the remaining holes on the paper cup.
Step 5:
Then, go ahead and tie the other ends of the yarn through the corresponding holes in the plastic bag.
Step 6:
Decorate your paper cup!
Step 7:
Take your carefully chosen lightweight toy, put it in the paper cup, and watch it have the time of its life, riding in a plastic bag, DIY parachute! Recycling, science, and DIY all in one!
Step 8:
Repeat with other toys! This is the experiment part. Use different toys and record data like how much time it took to reach the ground, how loud the thud on the ground was, and how the parachute looked when it was going to the ground! You can also try making the parachute out of different materials and see the effects. Make a hypothesis if you want! Let your curious mind explore!
Well, that BLEW my mind!
Toodles,
Anika
Cool project!
