Burning Hot Fashion: Curtain ➡ Top!

Curtain to Top!

Okay, okay. I know what you're thinking. "Anika has probably FINALLY lost her mind. Curtains? Tops? They shouldn't be used in the same sentence unless the sentence says, 'Curtains aren't tops.'" Well, think again! This creative guide will change how you look at both window treatments and fashionable tops.

Things you need for this mind-blowing transformation:

  • 1 curtain
  • A pen
  • A pair of scissors
  • A coil of sewing thread and a sewing needle (or a stitching machine, but this is DIY, people!)
  • Elastic material
  • Optional: Spray paint, fabric paint, glitter (etc.)
  • 10-15 minutes
  • Some imagination and talent of following instructions

Finally, let's get the ball rolling!

Step 1

Take your curtain and wrap it around your body. The top should be directly underneath your arms (refer to the picture). Wrap it around as tight as you want. I recommend doing it skin-fitting but not painful. Use your pen to make a mark on where your curtain meets the part behind.

Step 2

Cut the extra part of your curtain where you made the mark. Also, cut your curtain according to what length you want your top to be (cropped, regular, or long). I personally prefer it to be cropped.

Step 3

Stitch up the open edges.

Step 4

Insert the elastic band into the top of your, well, top! Do this for the bottom, too. If you want, use your extra curtain to stitch on some flowing fabric on your top.

Optional: Step 5

Use your decorative items and make your top look beautiful! Maybe some shimmery gold spray paint to add an elegant touch, or some artwork by your fabric paint to give an artistic feel. Your wish, your choice, your imagination! Knock yourself out! (I didn't do this because at the time I did this project, I was going for a plain, elegant look 😅)

WOW!! That's an explosive fashion statement!

Toodles,

Anika
